أَخْبَرَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ عَبَّادِ بْنِ الْعَوَّامِ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي رَجَاءٍ، - قَالَ عُثْمَانُ هُوَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَيْفٍ - عَنْ مَطَرٍ الْوَرَّاقِ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ شُعَيْبٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏ "‏ لَيْسَ عَلَى رَجُلٍ بَيْعٌ فِيمَا لاَ يَمْلِكُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

English Translation

It was narrated from 'Amr bin Shu'aib, from his father, that his grandfather said:

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'No man is bound by a transaction involving the sale of something that he does not possess.'''
